Paediatric Speech Pathology

Paediatric Speech Pathologists have expertise in the assessment, diagnosis and treatment of preschool and school aged children presenting with communication and language concerns which may be stand alone or may be part of a more complex developmental diagnosis.

Paediatric Speech Pathologists help improve how children communicate in areas such as:

– Delayed early language development or “late talkers”

– Difficult to understand speech, articulation delay or dyspraxia

– Comprehension difficulties

– Language delay or disorder

– Social communication (pragmatic) language difficulties

– Delayed play skills/social issues

– Attention and listening difficulties

– Stuttering

– Developmental delay or disorder

– Autism Spectrum Disorder

– Language based learning and literacy issues.

How can a Speech Pathologist Help your child?

A speech pathologist will initially undertake a comprehensive assessment of a child’s language and communication skills.

After identifying the communication and language issues, they may then liaise with a child’s family, educators, paediatrician or allied health professionals involved in your child’s care so key people can be involved in supporting their therapy goals.

These processes should be an engaging, interactive, and enjoyable experience for children. Parents are usually involved in therapy to ensure the lessons learnt can be practiced and implemented as much as possible at home, kindergarten or school, and other activities to maximise their language development.
